To cap off my ending to week 5, I would say things are starting to run smoothly. But, there is still a lot more to be done. I really enjoyed my week 5 story and my week 5 reading. I chose Sita Sings the Blues to watch and write about, and it was more than entertaining. I think my favorite part of Sita's story, was when she continued to remain faithful and loyal to Rama, even though she wasn't sure she would survive. Additionally, adding Nina and Dave's story served as a refectory tool while being guided through Sita's story. When I wrote my own story, I focused on Sita's individual journey behind singing the blues. It was fun for me to get to transform Sita into this girl who has such a great love for jazz music. Music is what sets her soul on fire. I personally related to the story I wrote, because I have a history with music and singing. My love for music really allowed me to put more thought and perspective into my story.

Another portion of week 5 I enjoyed, is relative to reading other classmates stories through the commenting assignment. One story that really caught my eye, transformed Sita Sings the Blues into a tabloid. This was something I had never thought of before, but it motivated me to get more creative with my stories. The tabloid theme of her story, was an alternative method to captivate the significance of Sita and Rama's relationship, while emphasizing the trials and tribulations they faced until the end. There was also a story that offered a unique twist to a Jakata tales, regarding a foolish rabbit. This specific classmate, used the viral trends of tide pods as a modern spin off. The center piece that linked the original tale to the tide pod story, was the following of others leads so easily. It was extremely relatable to everyday life, because originality has become a distant ideal. People have become so focused on acquiring fame, even if it means jeopardizing their own well-being. Both of the stories I mentioned, are excellent examples to spark my imagination. I look forward to sharing how my following week plays out. I am definitely feeling more optimistic and eager to learn more in this class and improve my writing skills.

  1. Hi Lillian, I really enjoyed reading your Famous last Words, and that you feel optimistic. I agree, this is such a new structure of a class, for me. I have never had a class set up like this, but I am very optimistic with how it is going. Even if I don't think my storytelling is going that well, haha. I watched Sita Sings the Blues also! However, I was a little lost on the modern couples story being added to it. I had some theories, but nothing was very obvious. I enjoyed reading what you thought of them.

  2. Hi Lillian!
Sita is one of my favorite characters from the Ramayana, but I did not watch the Sita Sings The Blues, but I probably should! You make it sound very entertaining! Also, the idea of a tabloid? That is so unique. I always find such different interpretations of stories, and it is so cool.
