Week 2 Reading Overview

22 January 2019

Ramayana Reading Selection

The Ramayana option I chose for the third week, is the Public Domain Edition. The reasoning behind my choice stems from the fact that there are various story styles represented. I think it is essential to have variation to see what style best suits my interests. Additionally, the Public Domain Edition Ramayana Online is free, provides a free audio version, and contains notes and illustrations. I am excited to see the vivid pictures displayed within the stories, because I believe they will help me grasp greater comprehension of each piece.

Comic Books and Video Exploration

The comic books that caught my attention are Surya: How the Sun God Was Tamed and Krishna and Rukmini: A Love That Will Not Be Denied. The aforementioned comic books, both have very detailed cover art. I enjoy reading stories about love and passion, and both stories have to deal with some sort of romance. While the first comic deals with avoiding love in some way, the second deals more so with forbidden love. Both comics had the same foundation of romance but added different elements to create their own individualized representation.

The videos I found to be enticing were Google Search: Reunion and Foods for Gods: Epified. I loved both of these videos and the emotions/feelings that came with watching them. The first video was very inspiring and really focused on love overcoming any type of intolerance. It was an encouraging gesture to see. The second video was thoughtful in the way it approached it's theme. I had not thought about the idea of God's consuming food, but the video gave me a widened perspective to think about from a different light. The music in the second video was very calming and relaxing.

Indian Epics Image

The image I chose to utilize is a copper toned sculpture of Hanuman carrying a mountain. I am not particularly sure as to why I chose this photo, but the sculpture itself seems very unique and elaborate, which I can appreciate. The photo is depicted and cited below.
